SELFISHADOWS is an Italian Dark Wave band formed in 2007 by Daniele Giustra. SELFISHADOWS is the ambition of an improvisation set and the need of a new found song form. Daniele Giustra cleverly mashes brand new and vintage synthesizers, lyrics and electronic drums in a kind of “Krautpop” atmosphere full of pathos. Between wave and glitch, the sound pursuit submits to the natural disposition for a "therapeutic", dry and minimal crooner-like voice.
The stillness as a movement expression.
SELFISHADOWS manages to take us from cloudy, hushed ambiences (“Sail Away”) to the dancefloor, with tracks of formidable effectiveness (“Calling around here”). And if, after hiding under his hood on the previous album (“Again”, 2020), he now hides behind fragile, pastel flowers, it's undoubtedly to better tame our souls. Behind a discreet man with a deep voice, classically simple songs emerge, a hushed, haunting, sunny universe far removed from contemporary bands who mimic their elders without too much hindsight. A certain naive poetry (“Your Name”), almost innocent ballads (“Falling down” feat. Suzi Sabotage [up and coming Finnish artist on Out of Line]) that do not prevent introspection, and provoke nostalgia for a time already past.
