The German female-male duo LEFT FOR PLEASURE released their first tracks digitally during the Covid-19 pandemic and their first album, „Human Contract“ in 2022.
With their second album, „Claymore“, LEFT FOR PLEASURE are consistently continuing on their previous path, which is oriented towards the Darkwave-sound of the 90s, but also incorporates related influences from Postpunk, Synthpop and Guitarwave. The band itself describes the album as „10 chapters of an inner battle“, which flows somewhere between melancholy and hopelessness.
The album begins atmospherically with „Wehmut“ and „Burden“, „Hurt“ offers dreamy synth pads and wavy guitars, while „Last Dive“ makes it clear that the two certainly have a few The Cure records on their shelves. „I Let You Die“ adds a few lighter synth sounds, and „Cold Night“ oscillates between Postpunk and Gothrock. „Subject“ is lighter, more electronic and suitable for club use.
As one can undoubtedly see, LEFT FOR PLEASURE don't necessarily deliver anything new to the scene, but these young people have learned their lesson from their musical ancestors such as Clan Of Xymox, Pink Turns Blue and, from more recent times, perhaps Isla Ola or Lebanon Hanover, and will now surely have the courage to develop a more individual style from these roots. Until then, „Claymore“ is a beautiful album that brings back many memories of the Darkwave-scene of the 90s.
Released November 2025 on Young & Cold Records.
