In 2018, the gothic novel rockers ASP embarked on a concert tour that was really something special. For the occasion of the 10th anniversary of their work ‘Zaubererbruder – Der Krabat-Liederzyklus’, they presented the complete double album live, in its entirety. In the intervening period, singer and mastermind Asp just couldn’t shake off his interpretation of the Sorbian legend of the apprentice sorcerer Krabat. So he therefore took advantage of the occasion of the anniversary tour to present two additional songs for the Krabat song cycle, which according to him were intended to fill long-perceived gaps in the story.
These two new songs now appear not only as part of the phenomenal live recording ‘Zaubererbruder Live & Extended’, but also as exclusive studio versions on a double A-side single. In order not to give one of the two pieces preferential treatment over the other, the records and CDs are released in ‘double cover’ packaging, once again demonstrating their enthusiasm for brilliant detail and a love of artwork seen increasingly less often these days.
The stirring, euphoric ‘Osternacht’ represents a stylistic contrast to the sinister, heavy firecracker ‘Geh und heb dein Grab aus, mein Freund’. Musically, the two pieces fit perfectly into the poetic maelstrom and musical versatility of the original album.
Even after more than ten years, nobody will still be able to escape being cast under the spell of ASP’s version of Krabat. Now it’s time to experience the complete story.
